The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State Chapter, in collaboration with the KTM Foundation, on Saturday organised a free medical outreach for members to promote health awareness and healthy living.
Speaking at the event, the Kwara State Coordinator of KTM Foundation, Mr. AbdulBasit Olarewaju, said the outreach was aimed at educating SWAN members on healthy lifestyles and preventive healthcare practices.
Olarewaju said the medical screenings, health tips and professional guidance provided by the foundation's medical personnel would help participants address health challenges, prevent complications and improve their overall well-being.
A member of the KTM Foundation team, Mrs. Blessing Osho, who delivered a lecture on HIV and AIDS, stressed the importance of proper hygiene and avoiding exposure to infection through unsafe blood transfusions and contaminated sharp objects.
She also cautioned against engaging in unprotected sexual activities and emphasised the need for regular HIV testing. According to her, knowing one's HIV status remains crucial to preventing the spread of the disease and ensuring timely medical intervention.
Also speaking, another member of the medical team, Miss Ayomide Grace, advocated regular exercise, routine medical check-ups and reduced consumption of salty and oily foods as effective measures for preventing hypertension and related health conditions.
Grace also urged participants to moderate their intake of alcohol, describing responsible consumption as essential for maintaining good health.
Earlier, the Chairman of Kwara SWAN, Mallam Ayodeji Ismail, commended the KTM Foundation for partnering with the association. He said the collaboration had significantly enhanced health awareness among members.
Ismail assured that the association would continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to advance the welfare of members, particularly in the area of health and well-being.
